What LegacySteps is

LegacySteps, run by [company name] ("we", "us"), helps you prepare and keep track of the letters and forms needed to tell organisations that someone has died. It is provided to you through your funeral director as part of their service. We do not charge you directly.

What it is not

LegacySteps does not give legal, tax or financial advice. It does not administer the estate, apply for probate, or move any money. The letters it produces are based on each organisation's published process and on the details you enter. Each organisation decides what it needs and may ask you for more. Where a task needs a solicitor or the executor of the estate, LegacySteps says so.

Your responsibilities

Enter accurate information; the letters go out in your name. Only use the service for a death you are genuinely dealing with as a family member, executor, administrator or solicitor. Using it to make a false notification is a criminal offence and we will report it. Keep your login secure and do not share the link or code we send you. Only invite a helper you trust; they will see everything on the case. Do not enter passwords, online banking details, card numbers or the cause of death.

Our responsibilities

We keep your information safe as described in our privacy notice. We keep the organisation guidance up to date as far as we reasonably can, and we tell you where something needs to be confirmed with the organisation directly. We do not charge you directly, and we do not use your information for any purpose other than providing the service.

Limits on our liability

We do our best to keep the service accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be either. We are not responsible for an organisation's decision, delay or error, for losses that result from information you entered incorrectly, or for anything a helper you invited does. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Ending your use

You can delete your case at any time from your account. We may suspend an account that we reasonably believe is being misused, and we will tell you why. When your case is deleted, or when the retention period in the privacy notice ends, the information is removed as described there.

Changes and law

We may change these terms. We will show you the new version at your next login and you can stop using the service if you do not agree. These terms are governed by Irish law.
